This online Tai Chi programme is unique in that it teaches tai chi principles and postures from the ground up. The teaching pedagogy is simple: teach the basics and add on to this understanding slowly and systematically. Sifu Jenny Harrison is a trained teacher who has had over 30 years of experience teaching children and adults. She has lectured in Cert III and IV in Fitness and she has written and facilitated courses in fitness and tai chi. Sifu Jenny has developed a system of learning that is simple, clear, and achievable.
Tai chi is a complex system of movements and it can seem confusing. Sifu Jenny has developed a method of teaching which addresses the problems some beginner students have with remembering sequences and coordinating arms and legs.
Rather than learning a complete Form, which consists of a series of specific movements, Sifu Jenny teaches individual postures first. You can then practice these individual movements until you feel confident with them. Those postures are then put into a sequence, called a Form. Forms you will be learning are Silk Reeling 8 Form, 5 Form,10 Form and Bejing 24. Qigong exercises are also taught. These include single movements repeated a number of times, as well as Shibashi Sets, which are a series of 18 different exercises. During your continued practice, you will gradually realise that everything you are learning is connected. Postures are common to a number of Forms, Tai Chi principles are the same for the simple 5 Form, right through to the Beijing 24. It’s like building a lego model, or putting together a jigsaw puzzle.
