Tai Chi is hundreds of years old, with its roots in the Wudang mountains in China. Based on Taoism, tai chi teaches us to be one with nature. We learn to ‘bend with the wind,’ we soften, we accept and adapt. The movements in tai chi look deceptively simple but are surprisingly intricate, working all parts of the body, including the brain. Tai Chi literally means ‘Supreme Ultimate’.
Tai chi is a low impact exercise and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. Tai Chi requires no special equipment so practice can be done anywhere - indoors or outdoors, at any time of the day. Although tai chi can be quite social, it can also be practised alone, cultivating a sense of peaceful mindfulness.
